Two Oscar Nominated Films Inspire New Rum Cocktails

Standard

Any Oscar viewing party is usually going to involve an alcoholic beverage or several, so why not make your get-together a little special and tailor a couple of your cocktails to some Best Picture contenders? This year BlackBeard Spiced Rum has rolled out the red carpet to make it easy to host an Oscar party that will leave your guests feeling like movie stars. Esteban Ordoñez, BlackBeard’s National Brand Ambassador and Head of Mixology, has concocted drink ideas inspired by two of this year’s nominees for Best Picture.

If your guests will be rooting for The Fighter, knock them out with a Black and Blue, a fresh take on an Irish Car Bomb.
Black and Blue
½ oz. Blue Curacao
1 bottle Blue Moon (or other choice of beer)
1 shot of BlackBeard

Pour Blue Curacao in a pint glass and fill ¾ full with Blue Moon. Fill a small shot glass with BlackBeard. Drop shot into pint glass and drink.

For guests who may have thought Black Swan had the best performances of the year, Esteban suggests the Black and White. This recipe creates two cocktails to be served side by side to show dueling personalities.
Black and White
1 ½ oz. BlackBeard
¾ oz. Baileys Liqueur
½ oz. simple syrup
1 tsp. cocoa powder

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and set aside.

1 oz. BlackBeard
1 oz. coconut milk
½ oz. DonQ Coco
½ oz. condensed milk

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. With a straw take a few drops from the black cocktail and drip into the center of the white cocktail. Do the same with the white cocktail into the center of the black cocktail. Serve side by side.
