All Fired Up – A Review of “Kitty Raises Hell”

“I spend a lot of time on Wikipedia making corrections to the entries of historical figures I’ve known.” – Rick, the four hundred and something year-old vampire when asked what use he has for a computer.

In the words of the famous (or infamous, depending on your p.o.v.) Inigo Montoya, allow me to sum up. Kitty is back. And Denver will not be the same. Now, allow me to ‘splain. Threaded through the entire Kitty Norville series are rumors and intimations about a vampire big bad so powerful and shadowy that even Denver’s Master, Rick, doesn’t know who pulls all the strings. But book six of the series, Kitty Raises Hell, does a lot to bring things out into the light.

Meanwhile, Kitty and her husband, Ben, are up to their usual drama and intrigue. Something is hunting them and their pack, and it smells like it was sent express mail from the ninth level of hell. As added spice, Kitty has teamed up with a reality TV crew that does paranormal investigation and is filming with them on a couple local Denver haunts. There’s also a new vampire roaming the streets that has Rick all kinds of nervous, especially since this apparent stranger seems to know way too much about Kitty’s exploits and her current dilemma.

As the sixth book in the Kitty Norville series, Kitty Raises Hell should by all rights be wrapping things up and possibly losing a little steam. Instead, Vaughn has managed come back swinging from the book five cliffhanger to give another installment that kept me up until the wee hours just to see how it ended. I’ll happily recommend this book to anyone, including my old Literature classmates, because everyone deserves to have this much fun reading. Kitty’s House of Horrors can’t come out soon enough.

For those of you who have yet to read the series and have been waiting patiently to find out the winner of our contest, this is the part you’ll really want to read.
