Variety is reporting that Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) has agreed to direct and produce a feature film based on the video game ‘Bioshock‘ for Universal pictures. The deal, which includes an attractive multimillion dollar license agreement Take Two Entertainment (publisher of ‘Bioshock’), is structured in a way that should see the film actually get produced… unlike last year’s ‘Halo’ movie fiasco.
Verbinski appears to be a fan of the game, stating that “”I think the whole utopia-gone-wrong story that’s cleverly unveiled to players is just brimming with cinematic potential. Of all the games I’ve played, this is one that I felt has a really strong narrative.”
John Logan (Avatar, Gladiator) is currently in talks to handle the script writing duties for the ‘Bioshock’ film. No release date has been set by Universal.
