You’d think in the 21st Century America, a movie like this would contain more Asian American actors in the lead roles. This is akin to modern day Black Face. Plus, I am betting that all the bad guys will be played by Asian actors, perpetuating the myth that Asians are somehow mysteriously evil. You’d think Hollywood would know better! BOYCOTT this turkey!

Come on guy, there’s hardly any – maybe none – movies in 21st Century America starring Asians, so why wish failure on this one. The original series was a total fantasy world anyway with all kinds of people of indeterminate race.
Know what I’m betting? This movie will be super cool.

Dear Chuckie, you are right. There is NO movie featuring Asians. I suppose there is nothing wrong with this, just like Black Face genre was an legitimate entertainment. You just can’t find decent African American and Asian American actors in this country. Enjoy your movie.

Nudelman – If they tried to make the TV show “Roots” with white people playing the blacks, then that would be Black Face. Instead, the Last Airbender is a FANTASY about a FANTASY world heavily influenced by Asian/Inuit cultures. So, why do you think an Asian American actor should play an Inuit? Shouldn’t they have found an English speaking, martial arts expert, Screen Actors guild member 12 year old boy who is an Inuit to play the apropriate role? Be consistent. Anything else is Inuit Face! We won’t miss you at the movie :)

You’re right Mary. It is a FANTASY world. What’s the big deal? Picture an Arthurian quest-inspired story line with a young Asian child, or any child-of-color for that matter, being cast for the role of young Arthur. No big deal — its just a fantasy. Would you accept this casting decision? I think not Mary.
