The Prisoner Remake: Rumors Running Rampant

Early this month Six of One, the official Prisoner appreciation society, broke some news regarding the long in development remake of the Prisoner TV series. According to their statement from June 6th the show will return as a six part mini-series written by Bill Gallagher, produced by Trevor Hopkins and starring Sir Ian McKellen as Number Two and James Caviezel as Number Six. AMC (American Movie Classics) and ITV are co-producing. We contacted ITV to try to get some of this confirmed and got the following statement from the ITV Press Office:

“We are indeed going to be co-producing with AMC a re-imagining of The Prisoner. At the moment no casting is confirmed, so all cast names are pure speculation. No further details are available at this time I’m afraid.”

Take that as you will. We will keep digging and will bring you more info as we find it. I’m really interested to see what they do with this new re-imaging of such a classic and iconic, not to mention groundbreaking and ahead of it’s time, television series. As long as they keep to the core of the story and blend in the quirkiness of the original, then it might be pretty good. McKellen and Caviezel are outstanding actors and would bring a lot to these roles, so I’m all for them being in it. Time will tell. Until we get more info…be seeing you!

It’s still very much up in the air, until more details are confirmed I wouldn’t bet on anything happening at all!
