Warner Home Video releases V: The Complete First Season on DVD and Blu-ray on November 2nd. Using a little deductive reasoning (the first season debuted on November 3, 2009 and the show aired on Tuesdays) it’s probably not too far fetched to say that season two will premiere either that same day or possibly the following Tuesday, the 9th. Anyway, all twelve episodes are presented in 16×9 aspect ratio and Dolby Surround 5.1. The Special Features are being listed as: The Visual FX of V Featurette, The Actor’s Journey Featurette, An Alien in Human Skin: The Makeup FX of V Featurette and unspecified Episode Commentary. Below is the trade ad that gives a look at the cover art for both sets, although it is possible neither are finalized.

What fate awaits the Actives?

Joss Whedon’s most recent TV series, Dollhouse, was once again sabotaged by studio interference which resulted in a show that didn’t live up to it’s potential or promise. It’s interesting that once the network gave up on it and left the creative team alone the show finally became what it should have been, but, alas, too late for it to win the ratings game. You can complete your collection of this uneven, yet quality show on October 12th when the second and final season is released on DVD and Blu-ray. Here are the details from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment:

From creative mastermind Joss Whedon comes the second and final season of the sexy, suspenseful thriller Dollhouse on Blu-ray and DVD October 12 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. The collectible set includes all 13 episodes of Dollhouse, a limited edition exclusive comic book, and bonus audio commentary by Joss Whedon and series writers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.

Joss Whedon’s take on the ultimate identity theft follows a cast of Actives, or Dolls, who serve as agents of Dollhouse, an illegal underground organization providing elite clientele with programmable human beings. Personality imprints allow Actives to temporarily become anyone or anything—the perfect burglar, lover, spy or assassin. When the mission is completed, memories are wiped clean. The all-star Dollhouse cast is led by Eliza Dushku as Echo (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tru Calling, Angel) and Tahmoh Penikett as Paul Ballard (Battlestar Galactica).

Disc Features
The Dollhouse Season Two four-disc DVD or three-disc Blu-ray collection includes a retrospective with Joss Whedon and cast roundtable about the series. A gag reel and deleted scenes from top episodes are also included. Disc contents include episodes 1-13: “Vows,” “Instinct,” “Belle Chose,” “Belonging” and “The Public Eye,” “The Left Hand,” “Meet Jane Doe,” “A Love Supreme,” “Stop-Loss” and “The Attic,” “Getting Closer,” “The Hollow Men,” and “Epitaph 2: The Return.”

The complete 13 episodes of the final season are presented in wide screen format with English, 5.1 DTS sound and English, Spanish, French and Portuguese subtitles.

Dollhouse Comic Book
Each Blu-ray and DVD comes with a 28 page exclusive limited edition comic book by Dark Horse Comics. Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, joined by longtime Buffy the Vampire Slayer artist Cliff Richards, take us on an intricate trip through the precise moment when the Active technology went global, and how the protagonists from “Epitaph One” and “Two” narrowly avoided death, and worse. Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen wrote the “Epitaph” episodes of Dollhouse Seasons One and Two, and currently write for the Starz series Spartacus. This is their first work in comics. Artist Cliff Richards has drawn more Joss Whedon-related comics than any other artist, including issues of Buffy Season Eight.”

Get the new season in 2011!

I’m interested to see how they will redo the 40 issues of the comic as 19 motion comics. Also, who will be voicing the characters as it will be weird not having the folks from the show play their characters. Lots of questions on this one and we will do our best to get that info for you! For now, here is all that is known:

Buffy followers can enjoy more slayer action with the very first episode of the motion comic series Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Eight available now on the iTunes Store, with new episodes available every week from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. A continuation of Joss Whedon’s hallowed shows and based on the award-winning comic book series by Dark Horse Comics, the gripping saga of the vampire-killing legend picks up where the television series ended: thousands of slayers around the world have been activated, Sunnydale has been blown up and Buffy has relocated to Scotland.

iTunes episodes are available for $.99/$1.99 HD each, or with a season pass for $14.99/$29.99 HD and can be found at www.iTunes.com/Buffy. All 19 episodes will make their official debut on DVD January 4, 2011 which will include limited edition Jo Chen packaging and a collectible reprint of Dark Horse Comic’s first book in the series.

Comic-Con attendees visiting the Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment booth (#4313) will witness the debut of the exclusive trailer for Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Eight. The Dark Horse booth (#2615) will also screen the trailer along with hosting a signing with creator Joss Whedon.

Three-time winner of Diamond’s Gem Award – including Comic Book of the Year – the Buffy The Vampire Slayer comic book also earned an Eisner Award for “Best New Series.”

Synopsis
Following the destruction of the Hellmouth in the explosive finale of the television series, Buffy and her trusted friend Xander have relocated to a citadel in Scotland to oversee the thousands of newly activated slayers from across the globe. Using their new home as command-central in their fight against evil, Buffy and her allies lead these new slayers as they take on vamps, zombies and now the U.S. government who declare, in the wake of Sunnydale’s destruction, that slayers are nothing more than international terrorists.

Jones Soda Promotion
Striking a unique partnership, Jones Soda has created 6 custom themed Buffy The Vampire Slayer Motion Comic labels exclusively for San Diego Comic Con. During the convention, the Jones Soda RV will be circling the San Diego Convention Center giving away free samples to Buffy fans.

On Blu-ray, everyone will hear you scream!

I thought for sure the Alien Quadrilogy DVD set fro ma few years ago was the ultimate collection of the Alien film series. I was wrong. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has managed to do that set one better times ten with the Alien Anthology Blu-ray set. Also, you can actually board The Nostromo next week at Comic-Con! Details from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment are below, including the disc by disc specs for this outstanding set.

The Ultimate Collection Featuring All Four ALIEN Films Hatches On Blu-ray from October 25 With Never-Before-Seen Bonus Material And The Debut Of The Exclusive and Groundbreaking Interactive Experience, MU-TH-UR Mode

Fans Have A Chance To Board The Nostromo During Comic-Con At Booth #3528 And Enter The Hibernation Chamber Of The Doomed Intergalactic Crew

Sometimes, the scariest things come from within. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment presents one of the most successful and terrifying film franchises of all time when the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY debuts on Blu-ray for the first time ever from October 25 internationally and on October 26 in North America. All four ALIEN films have been reinvigorated for an intense Blu-ray high-definition viewing experience. The release also marks the debut of MU-TH-UR Mode, a fully interactive companion that takes the extensive materials in the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY and puts them in the user’s hand – connecting fans to special features on all six discs and instantly providing an index of all available ALIEN content, including over 60 hours of special features and over 12,000 images.

The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY is a truly unique home entertainment experience. For the first time ever, the studio has united the material from every home video release of the ALIEN saga including the 1991/1992 laserdisc releases, the 1999 “Legacy” release and 2003′s groundbreaking ALIEN QUADRILOGY release into one complete Blu-ray collection. The set also includes two versions of each film and over four hours of previously unreleased exclusive material such as original screentests of Sigourney Weaver prior to filming the original ALIEN, unseen deleted scenes, thousands of still photographs from the Fox archives, the previously unseen original cut of “Wreckage and Rage: The Making of ALIEN3,” and much, much more.

The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY is just one aspect of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment’s yearlong campaign to honor the studio’s 75th birthday. This year the division will debut several select fan-favorites on Blu-ray for the first time ever including The Rocky Horror Picture Show, William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, The Last of the Mohicans and The Sound of Music.

A filmmaking team-up not to be missed!

A collaboration between Werner Herzog and David Lynch should make for a very powerful concoction and, from the description below, My Son, My Son What Have Ye Done looks to be just that. Lynch has the non-linear sensibilities to pull Herzog in an unusual direction while Herzog can ground Lynch’s lack of narrative structure just enough to be intriguing. Find out just how well this team-up works on September 14th.

Absurda, Industrial Entertainment and First Look Studios present My Son, My Son What Have Ye Done, the first collaboration between legendary filmmakers David Lynch and Werner Herzog. Academy Award® Nominees Michael Shannon, Chloë Sevigny, and Willem Dafoe headline this psychological thriller, written and directed by Herzog, produced by Lynch, and featuring Grace Zabriskie, Udo Kier, and Brad Dourif.

The film plus special features will be available on DVD September 14. The extras include: 5.1 Dolby sound, commentaries by Herzog, writer Herb Golder and producer Eric Bassett; interviews with Golder and Herzog; plus behind-the-scenes footage. The bonuses include Plastic Bag, a short film by director Ramin Bahrani (Goodbye Solo) that traces the epic, existential journey of a plastic bag voiced by Herzog.

My Son, My Son What Have Ye Done is loosely based on the mysterious true crime story of a young stage actor who, obsessed with a Greek tragedy he’s rehearsing, slays his own mother with a sword. David Jenkins of Time Out London gave the film five stars, calling it: “dazzling and utterly distinctive.” Dennis Dermody of Paper raved: “One of the Best Films of the Year.” Keith Uhlich of Time Out New York said: “Mesmerizing strangeness … recalls the co-writer-director’s 1976 masterpiece, Heart of Glass.” V.A. Musetto of The New York Post called it: “A surreal descent into a twilight zone created by the twisted sensibilities of two cinematic geniuses.”

Shannon, who will star in HBO’s new Boardwalk Empire this fall, perfectly inhabits the role of Brad Macallam, a man terribly at odds with the world around him. His story emerges in a series of flashbacks that take us on a journey that includes the Peruvian wilds, an ostrich farm, a Mexican border town and a quiet San Diego neighborhood where the drama unfolds.

Thomas Jane voices the disfigured bounty hunter.

If at first you don’t succeed, take the animated role. Thomas Jane actively sought the role of Jonah Hex in the recently released film, but was not chosen which, considering the bashing it’s been getting from critics and fans alike, may be something he’s no longer too upset about. However, Jane has still been able to take up the mantle of the disfigured bounty hunter in a new DC Showcase Original Short and it sounds as if it will be more in the tone of the comic book. Jonah Hex appears as a companion piece on the upcoming Special Edition Blu-Ray and 2-Disc Special Edition DVD release of Batman: Under the Red Hood, the latest entry in the ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original PG-13 Movies coming from Warner Home Video on July 27th.

In the short, the tough-as-nails bounty hunter always gets his man – until someone else gets to him first. In this case it’s a murderous madam who wants to steal more than just bounty from Jonah Hex. The animated short Jonah Hex is based on a story from the award-winning comic series, and scripted by renowned author Joe Lansdale. Jane leads a voice cast that includes Linda Hamilton (The Terminator), Michelle Trachtenberg (Mercy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Michael Rooker (Days of Thunder) and Jason Marsden (Spirited Away).

Jane currently headlines HBO’s Hung, though he’s active in numerous other projects, including films being developed by his own production company, Raw Studios. Coincidentally, Jane founded Raw Studios with Timothy Bradstreet and Steve Niles, the screenwriter of the first DC Showcase short, The Spectre. Jane’s directorial debut, Raw Studios’ Dark Country, continues to play to rave reviews and enthusiastic crowds at conventions and festivals around the world.

Courtesy of Warner Bros. Home Video, we have the following Q & A session with Thomas Jane:

QUESTION: This isn’t your first run at the role of Jonah Hex, is it?

THOMAS JANE: I’ve been a fan of the comic and the character and that whole western world. I’m glad to be voicing the role, and I actually wanted to do the live-action film. When they were casting the movie, I had a guy come and do my makeup, we took some photos and sent them off to Akiva Goldman. I know some of those photos have leaked out online. They had a different director at the time, and Josh Brolin had just hit with the Coen brothers movie, so he had pick of the litter. And that spelled outski for me.

QUESTION: Did you do any research to voice the role?

THOMAS JANE: Well, I lived with a pack of wolves for a week up in the ponderosa foothills to perfect my growl (he laughs). No, mostly I just tried not to love my voice. I tried my best.

QUESTION: Any thoughts on the look of Jonah Hex?

THOMAS JANE: The animators did a great job in capturing the ugliness of the character. He’s not a pretty boy. He looks like he’s been butchered by a blind barber. He’s mean as hell, and I can’t imagine anybody wanting to make love to the dude. He must be awful lonely. And that just makes him meaner. He’s a true anti-hero, and I really love that kind of character. Hollywood doesn’t do the anti-hero justice very often – it’s a tough character type for the studios to understand. The closest you get these days is like (Michael) Chiklis on The Shield. Taxi Driver may have been the last great anti-hero film. There’s always good ones in video games, especially games like Grand Theft Auto. Actors and directors love anti-heroes. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be the case with the rest of America right now.

QUESTION: Now that you’re directing, has that perspective effected your performances?

THOMAS JANE: I’m a lot nicer to the guy directing than I used to be. I’m also a little more pragmatic. I understand the needs of the story on the whole, and I’m less myopic in my view of the role as an actor. I’m serving a machine, the story as a whole, so the mechanics of me trying to strike an emotional truth are counter-balanced by not gurgling into the microphone or throat clicking. There’s a balance between the technical and the emotional that you have to strike.

QUESTION: Did that director’s perspective lead you to your asking to re-record so many lines after seeing/hearing your original performance?

THOMAS JANE: I’m really interested in a great performance. I’m interested in the texture of a performance and I understand that, especially in the animated projects, the human voice is really all you’ve got to connect with on a visceral, emotional level. You’ve got the writing, the words, and the human voice. And that’s what gives it life. So even more so than live action acting, I pay particular attention to the vocal performances.

QUESTION: You’ve had the chance to perform the dialogue wild, and also to picture. Was it easier or more difficult to record the lines while seeing the actual animation?

THOMAS JANE: It’s both. Without the animation, you have more freedom to make up the rhythm of the scene, and you can take more chances in your delivery because hopefully the director will choose an interesting performance, and the animators will animate to that performance. Once you’re locked in and I come back to redo the lines, I’m stuck with the rhythms that have been predetermined by the animators. But that also gives me structure, which affords me some other freedom in the delivery of the dialogue – because then I have a set rhythm and I can play with the intensity of the performance.

QUESTION: How would you describe your relationship with comic books?

THOMAS JANE: I discovered comic books when I was about 8 years old and I’ve been in love with them ever since. I thought I’d outgrow it, and I sort of did in my 20s, but then came back full force in the my early 30s. It’s because the medium is so powerful. As a kid, I thought of it as kid stuff, and then I grew up and found more adult material.
I never liked super heroes – I was always drawn more to a great story. I even loved the illustrated classics like Moby Dick – adaptations of a classic novel, or some of the original autobiographical stuff. And then there’s all the independents – Robert Crumb or Charles Burns or Daniel Clowes. The medium is so broad, much more so than film. There’s so much more room in comics for genres, styles, flavors, different auteurs. That’s what makes comics a great and timeless medium – a medium that will always be a compelling way to tell a story.

QUESTION: Do you have a favorite western?

THOMAS JANE: I love westerns. One of my all-time favorites is High Noon … and Stagecoach. Then there’s Red River, and The Unforgiven. Even <e>The Treasure of the Sierra Madre has the western themes. That’s what counts. I think you could make a western in a city so long as it has that western theme of an individual against the group. Man against nature. The outsider. Those themes are common to all westerns, but you can branch that out into other genres.

QUESTION: Which actors do you most like watching perform?

THOMAS JANE: My favorite actors are the “still” actors – guys like Lee Marvin, Clint Eastwood and Steve McQueen, combined with Montgomery Clift, John Garfield, William Holden and Sterling Hayden. They were all guys who had something interesting going on underneath. That combination of stillness on the surface and a boiling underneath is pretty much my favorite way to go.

QUESTION: What’s the hardest part about being a celebrity?

THOMAS JANE: I think it’s the misconceptions that people have about you. When I met Ringo Starr, I went to shake his hand and he said, “How about an elbow?” So we rubbed elbows, laughed, and I thought, “What the hell – he doesn’t want to shake my hand?” But it was about germs – he was going on tour and he didn’t want to get sick. When I was on tour for Punisher, there were about 500 people in line for an autograph and wanting to shake hands, and I finally stopped. I got inventive. It was funny to be on that side of it. I figured that I had to shake several people’s hands over the next few weeks and chances were pretty high that I was going to catch something that would be bothersome. The point is that you’re going to upset some folks when you don’t act the way they think you should. But it’s got nothing to do with who you are. It’s about taking care of yourself.

Finally catch up to 20 minutes into the future!

Max Headroom was an amazing series and truly ahead of its time. Like many similarly innovative series it also had a short life. This is one show I’ve been impatiently waiting to hit DVD and now, thanks to Shout! Factory, 20 minutes into the future is finally here! Read all the details below:

In the futuristic world of computers and fantasy, anything is possible, including the rise of the opinionated, computer-simulated multimedia personality Max Headroom. A pervasive pop culture icon, Max Headroom heralded the coming of trans-media age like a mad prophet of the airwaves, bolstered by his own international talk show, music video, countless major brand endorsement, merchandising and TV series. The landmark 1980s TV satire Max Headroom explored the television industry through the unique view of a sci-fi lens, featuring quirky visuals and adventurous, timely plotlines. One of the first TV series aimed at the video/computer generation, the critically acclaimed Max Headroom, starring Matt Frewer, W. Morgan Sheppard, Jeffrey Tambor and Amanda Pays, found instant fan support from the moment it debuted on ABC in 1987. Never mind Broadcast News or Network: it was Max Headroom taking on the truth about TV, in what was then an unthinkable 4,000 channel universe, where television sets are never turned off and cameras watch you everywhere.

For a longtime, fans have been anticipating the home entertainment debut of the show critics called the first cyberpunk series. On August 10, 2010, Shout! Factory, in association with Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., will unleash Max Headroom: The Complete Series in a collectible 5-DVD box set featuring all 14 episodes and a payload of exclusive bonus features that reveal the genesis, life and afterlife of the series with all-new interviews featuring the cast and creative team! A must-have for collectors and loyal fans, this deluxe DVD box set is further sparkled with a visually stunning 3-D lenticular exterior packaging.

EXTENSIVE DVD BONUS FEATURES INCLUDE:
•	Live On Network 23: The Story Of Max Headroom – Co-creators/directors Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton, co-creator George Stone, executive producer Peter Wagg, producer Brian Frankish and writers Steve Roberts and Michael Cassutt share their stories behind the British movie and American TV series that created an icon.

And just who exactly is Max Headroom? The answer starts with Edison Carter (Matt Frewer), a no-nonsense star reporter for Network 23. He has a talent for digging up a deadly secret that could shake up his station’s dominion over its viewers. This is just the kind of breaking news that network big wheels like to bury.

After Edison is pulled from a story, he’s immediately suspicious, especially when he’s also chased away from a secret room. Escaping from the scene, he crashes his motorcycle, and Network 23’s one-man tech department/teenage computer hacker Bryce Lynch (Chris Young) takes advantage of Edison’s misfortune. Bryce creates a computer-generated image of the unconscious reporter, and the cyber-result is a freewheeling personality who calls himself Max Headroom (“Max. Headroom. 2.7 m.” – the maximum clearance vehicle height – were the last words Edison glimpsed before his crash into a road barrier.).

The brash Max is also portrayed by Frewer, thanks to cutting-edge computer effects, and is an unpredictable, darkly humorous guy – who resides in a TV set, of course! A computer glitch provides his distinctive, sometimes s-s-s-stammering speech pattern. He serves as Edison’s unfiltered, outspoken alter ego, who makes no secret of his contempt for the TV business. Even as Edison recovers and continues his investigative journalistic quest, Max remains an unhinged presence, always ready with a quip that hits home. ”You know how to tell when a network president is lying?” asks Max. ”His lips move.”

The series also starred Amanda Pays as Theora Jones, Edison’s computer-savvy partner; W. Morgan Sheppard as “Blank Reg,” a buddy who broadcasts underground news from his bus; and Jeffrey Tambour as Murray, Edison’s harried, neurotic boss. Pays, Sheppherd and Frewer reprised their roles from the British film that inspired the series: Max Headroom: 20 Minutes into the Future. The series first appeared on ABC as a mid-season replacement in 1987, and quickly became a hit, returning in the fall and airing until 1988.

With a fast-paced irreverence and witty writing, the show delved into all aspects of the television business, from political advertising to televangelism, news coverage and the ratings game – all laced with a cynically comic edge. Max, the first computer-enhanced celebrity, was the undisputed star of the innovative but short-lived series.

A sci-fi program like no other, Max Headroom gazed into the not-too-distant future, and found that, surprise, the future is now!

Max Headroom is a production of Chrysalis/Lakeside in association with Lorimar Telepictures.
