Pop Culture Zoo is always interested in providing a venue for new voices to be heard. If you are interested in honing your writing, staying in practice or just looking to build an online writing resume, we would love to hear from you. Unfortunately, at this time Pop Culture Zoo is unable to provide any paying positions, but we can give you a growing audience as well as occasional perks like free review product, free press access to events and other perks as the site grows. Below is a list of what we are actively looking for, but if you have an idea for something that would be a great fit for Pop Culture Zoo, please let us know! All submissions should be emailed to submissions@popculturezoo.com along with SUBMISSION followed by area in the subject line and as much information about yourself and your desire to write that you care to send. This is open to anyone worldwide, we want to hear from YOU!
Regular Columnist: We are looking for several regular columns, be they weekly or monthly, on a wide variety of subjects. Please pitch us your ideas along with a few writing samples.
Subject Editor: The subject editor would be responsible for one of our main categories and would collect news, press releases and interviews for that subject and make sure the information is posted in a timely manner. Pluses in this area would be the ability to provide commentary on the impact of said news and give informed insight. Previous experience posting through WordPress would be ideal, but isn’t required. This would also require fielding many emails on a daily basis. Please submit your category preference as well as 2-3 writing samples.
Reviewer: Have you read or watched something lately that really made you think or want ot rant/rave about? We’d love to publish your review. As you become established we will arrange to have advanced product sent to you for review, which would then be yours to keep. Please submit 2-3 sample reviews along with what you’d like to review for us. We are also open to any podcast or video review ideas you may have. Please provide a link to any shows or samples you may have.
Convention Coverage: Live nearby a regular convention, such as San Diego Comic-Con or Emerald City Comicon, or just know of a cool event that you would like to report on? Let us know and we can talk about how to proceed. We can usually provide you free press access to the shows as well as backstage/press room access. Note that we would not be able to cover any expenses accrued such as hotel, travel and food. We hope to gain sponsors in the future for events and that would certainly change what we could cover. Submit any previous interviews you have done as well as 2-3 writing samples.
Transcriber: As the number of interviews increases, so does our need to have the audio interviews transcribed. We currently have a wonderful transcriptionist who indulges us in her free time, but she needs to have a life as well! Generally, this would entail transcribing a 15-30 minute audio file in 2-5 days, sometimes sooner depending on deadlines. Please submit any audio transcriptions you have previously done. You will receive credit within the article as well as a link to your personal website/blog/Twitter account/Facebook page.
